Blog comment spam is getting worse. With the rise of WordPress powered websites, and google SEO ranking heavily on content, there are more blog posts than ever before. Of course when wanting to engage your users, you enable comments and hope for the best. One blog in particular I was tasked with fixing blog spam on was getting anywhere from 150 – 250 spam comments per day! I found an amazing plugin that I now use for all new WordPress sites and that’s WP-SpamShield. It’s super easy to use, and really works well. For months we had 150 – 250 spam comments per day, and in the 4 months following the plugin setup, there were ZERO spam comments. To effectively use this plugin, you’ll also want to enter a blacklisted words list. There is a great github, updated from time to time with all kinds of blog spam keywords to look out for. You can find a list of 15,000+ words at this github.
